Hello February! How is 2023 going for you so far?
In honor of Black History Month, this month’s calendar features a Chicago Landmark from the Black Metropolis-Bronzeville Historic District. The Sunset Cafe was a legendary Chicago jazz club where Black and white patrons could mingle during the 1920s and ’30s. The biggest stars of the day graced the stage at the club which was later renamed the Grand Terrace Cafe. You can still visit the building today and see some of the jazz age murals in the present-day beauty supply store.
Researching Black history near you is one way to mark the month. Let me know what you learn!
