Meeting multiple generations of the family who owns cecevacaybahcesi was the highlight of our visit to the tea plantation in the Rize province.🍃To reach the Çeçeva village, also known as Haremtepe, you’ll wind narrow roads up to 60 metres above sea level. The village consists of scattered settlements built along the steep slope. It’s hard to imagine how villagers harvested tea on the slopes before modern transportation!⛰️

These days, tourists flock to the scenic Black Sea province to help harvest tea three times a year in May, July, and September. The traditional harvesting method uses tea scissors to cut the leaves attached to a bag that collects them. Türkiye produces 1.5 million tonnes of tea annually, with the majority coming from Rize.✂️Çeçeva rize türkiye satwistanbul GoTürkiye Goİstanbul
1,300 metres up, Sümela Monastery is carved into Karadağ (the Black Mountain). Monks are said to have founded the monastery during the fourth century, after an arduous climb. The monastery stopped functioning in the 13th century, but their vibrant religious frescoes still inspire awe in visitors.🏔️
