Don’t let the advertisers fool you—summer isn’t over. I’m holding tight to long summer days filled with sunshine, cricket sounds, and swims in Lake Michigan. From the Air and Water Show to the Bud Billiken Parade and Chicago Jazz Festival, August in Chicago is full of summer fun.
This month’s calendar highlights a view from one of the city’s best outdoor spots—Jackson Park. The sculptures featured this month are found on the outside of the Museum of Science and Industry in the Hyde Park neighborhood. From far away you may not notice that those columns are shaped like women! Upon closer inspection, you’ll notice that the figures, known as caryatids, are holding up the weight of the roof with their heads! They may seem uniform, but each caryatid is a bit unique.
Can you spot the differences between the caryatids?
