Pitchfork Artists Preview the Acts They Want to See

Pitchfork Music Festival hits Chicago July 15-17, for one of our favorite events of the year. There’s plenty to see and do around the grounds, including CHIRP Record Fair and the Flatstock show poster market. Yet Pitchfork is exceptional because the music, rather than the festival spectacle, is the draw for attendees.
This weekend, we’ll be sharing our favorite moments from each day of the festival. Rather than preview who we’re looking forward to seeing at Pitchfork, we reached out to the artists performing for their recommendations. Several of the artists playing Union Park let us know who they are looking forward to seeing at Pitchfork this weekend.

“A lot of them look pretty great but Circuit des Yeux, Empress Of, Kamasi Washington, Sun Ra Arkestra, and Jenny Hval are who I want to see.”

Julia Holter plays Friday on the Green Stage at 4:35 p.m.

“RP Boo – he’s one of the first things on Saturday and probably what I’m looking forward to the most, despite how odd it is going to be watching footwork, at 1:45pm in the afternoon.

Well Sun Ra I guess needs no introduction, an incredible musician with a massive output who surrounded himself with some of the best players ever. I obviously never got to see Sun Ra, and so far have never managed to see the Arkestra. The times they have toured Australia we’ve been in different cities doing other stuff. As fate would have it, I’m going to miss them again as we leave early Sunday morning.

We actually just played a festival in Europe with Brian Wilson, but I was so fucked from jet-lag  I took a “nap” before he played and slept for 15 hours. All accounts were that it was incredible. I dunno how I feel about it, will be interesting to see.”

See Royal Headache Saturday on the Blue Stage at 2:45 p.m.
