Chicago magazine’s January 2021 issue hit newsstands this week features ways to safely enjoy winter outdoors. This time of year, we all need an excuse to get out of the house and winter offers a change in scenery and activities. I was excited to contribute two articles to this issue!
First, I interviewed Mike McNett of the US Angling Confederation on how to get started ice fishing. If you really want hands-on advice, Mike let me know that you can message the US Ice Team on their Facebook page and one of their members will go fishing with you! While I tried ice fishing as a kid in Ohio, I have yet to dip my rod in the icy waters of Illinois.
I first tried snowshoeing on Northerly Island seven years ago, and it remains one of my most magical witner memories in Chicago. In this article, I rounded up some several places to strap on showshoes and try it yourself! Bring on the flurries.
