Capturing Chicago’s Sunrise from 360 Chicago

Chicago’s active photography community is always planning fun meetups. These Instameets are a great way to connect with area photographers in person. I even wrote about Chicago’s Instameets last year in an article that was eventually featured by Instagram.

To celebrate the shortest day of the year, 360 Chicago hosted an Instameet from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on December 21, 2016. The Winter Solstice Instameet was held in the 94th-floor observatory in the John Hancock Center, one of Chicago’s iconic skyscrapers. Photographer and 2015 Choose Chicago Artist of the Year Nick Ulivieri co-hosted. Check out his recap of the event.

It’s never easy waking up early to head into the cold, dark, Chicago December but viewing the city at sunrise is always worth it. Watching the sky glow from these heights over sleepy skyscrapers is a rare and unforgettable experience I’m grateful to have had. Thanks to 360 Chicago and Nick Ulivieri for a memorable solstice!
