The Midwest shows off in the fall, and I’m ready to savor its special moments from smoky bonfires to crunching leaves.
It’s only fitting that October’s calendar feature a grave. This is the only grave I’m aware of in Chicago that has its own island!
Chicago owes much of its design to architect Daniel Burnham, from early skyscrapers to the World’s Fair and undeveloped lakefront. The island where his ashes rest in Graceland Cemetery is a tranquil place to admire fall views. Known as the “Cemetery of Architects,” the Lakeview cemetery is also the final resting place of Louis Sullivan, Mies van der Rohe, and William Le Baron—the father of the skyscraper.
