Secret Chicago Printable Calendar – March 2023

"Helping Hands" sculpture in Chicago Women's Garden

March is here and that means one thing—spring arrives soon!

It’s also Women’s History Month. To mark the month, March’s calendar features a sculpture dedicated to a famous Chicago woman located in the Chicago Women’s Garden. If you haven’t visited the garden, it’s a lovely space near the Clarke House and museum in the South Loop.

Artist Louise Bourgeios dedicated her 2011 work “Helping Hands” to Jane Addams. Addams was the Chicago social reformer who founded Hull House, a settlement home for newly arrived immigrants. She even won a Nobel Peace Prize!

Sadly, there aren’t many Chicago landmarks dedicated to women despite the many badass women in the city’s history. I hope you learn about some of them this month!
